::: this drawing began whilst reading about Ukrainian Rushnyk cryptogram textiles as a response to hearing about this region during these difficult times
::: a Rushnyk is a traditional woven and embroidered cloth; my starting point was the Ukrainian versions via https://web.archive.org/web/20160522145927/http://www.ukrainianmuseumdetroit.org/textiles/rushnyky.html (Rushnyk's are also found in other places)
::: I didn't want to appropriate or represent it or the traditional patterns and forms accurately, so I used the rectangular format of the cloth to represent a life's journey, and started with red as one of the main colours to represent life/health, and black for the earth
::: a cryptogram was/is used to encrypt information visually, much like art, it has visual language to carry meaning
::: after more reflection and adjusting of the drawing, it began to appear to me as an aerial view of the land, and its often-changing borders throughout history, and the patterns and forms for how people move across the land ::: landscrape
::: this is an experimental work ::: some parts are static, and some change over time, to represent movement. sometimes the changes are quite subtle, other times more pronounced
