This generative music project explores the interplay of randomness and the human mind's inherent tendency to find order and meaning in sound. It utilizes an algorithm driven by Markov chains and Perlin noise to generate an infinite stream of musical notes, creating a unique and unpredictable composition with each iteration.
Imagine an endless flow of sonic information, a cascade of notes devoid of deliberate structure. As you listen, your mind becomes an echo chamber, reflecting these sounds against a lifetime of musical memories. Familiar melodies, fragments of songs, and forgotten tunes resurface, creating a personalized and ever-shifting tapestry of sound.
Each output begins with a randomly generated sequence of four base notes. These notes define the fundamental harmony and tonality of the piece, acting as the foundation for the generative process.
Markov Chains: Building upon the four base notes, Markov chains generate melodic sequences with a degree of probabilistic structure, creating a sense of musical coherence within the randomness.
Perlin Noise: Introduces controlled randomness to trigger note events, adding an element of surprise and unpredictability to the composition. This influences the rhythm and density of the music, creating dynamic variations within the established melodic framework. Visually represented as a moving ring, Perlin noise dictates the rhythm of the piece. When the ring passes through the center point, it triggers a sound event, bringing the Markov-generated melodies to life.
