Outer mandalas represent the universe or world-system and are traditionally offered as thank you gifts. In this case it’s my offering to the fxhash community as a celebration of #fxhashturnsone.

Outer Mandalas is part of a broader series I am working on that explores the use of techniques and patterns from sacred geometries using generative randomness. I use generative algorithms to create “blueprints” that can be transferred out of the physical realm and into the real world as multi-layered three dimensional sculptures.

I create limited edition physical “prints” for Outer Mandalas by using a high powered laser to precisely cut through 4-ply museum boards (the same stuff you frame a picture with) to create 12 unique layers. I then stack and carefully glue each layer together in order to create a dynamic relief that plays with light and shadow. These pieces are visually engaging artworks that tend to spark conversation whenever they are seen.
