This new collection, a collaboration between Sha22, Fleurman & Raoul Pictor, is unveiled at the Mapping Festival Geneva 2024.
In “ConcretionX144X160” Raoul Pictor explores the expressive potential of pixels in a 144 x 160 pixel format with four shades, reminiscent of the legendary Game Boy console. These pixels not only delineate the physical framework of the work; they also create the world in which Raoul lives and works.
Represented with his computer, Raoul becomes the symbol of an era where the artist and the tool merge into one. Coded to code, Pictor reflects the recursive loop of digital creation where the virtual artist, himself a series of commands and scripts, generates art through his own programming language. He challenges the acronym WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) by revealing an art of programming where the final artwork remains hidden behind the veil of code. He is both the brush and the painter, the algorithm and the craftsman, exploring the boundaries of a reality where the tangible and intangible coexist. The distinction between creator and creation dissolves in this digital space, prompting viewers to recognize art not only as the product of a process but also as an introspective reflection of the technology that shapes it.
The generated creations juxtapose the virtual and the physical world through the depiction of a pixelated sculptural form, a concretion, made up of abstract three-dimensional elements that suggest the weight of traditional materials from our reality.
