Project #24415
The Bear was a patron of the arts while he was making LSD in California in the late 1960’s. He had more acid money than he knew what to do with, and often commissioned major art projects while very, very high. He always paid artists up front, and did not care how long the commissions took to complete. Very many of these projects were abandoned or lost while The Bear was incarcerated in the early 70’s.
This is an extended digital run of a lost series of psychedelic screen prints that were commissioned by the Bear. The silkscreens and a few proofs were found in a storage unit in Oakland in the late 80’s. 20 years’ worth of rent had been paid up front, and the unit had not been opened since the fall of 1971. The artist is unknown, but a contract in the Bear’s hand was found with the work, establishing provenance.
