Everybody lies. And I'm not talking about the kind of lie when you say that you liked someone else's gift, or when you say that you're busy to avoid going out. I'm talking about the lies we tell ourselves, self-deception, which happens constantly. It is so common, in fact, that people can be unaware they're even lying. It's been engraved into our minds over the ages as a self-defence algorithm, and it's quite an effective one.

But it's a good thing, right? It gives us motivation in trying times, and certainly helps us be happy. Well, even though illusions can have a positive impact on the mental state, there is always a negative impact on the lived reality. You most certainly aren't going to improve anything if you can just make up another lie to cover it up.

So, what will you choose? Short, strong benefits of ignorance, or long-lasting but weak benefits of honesty?
