Project #348
An homage to Josef Albers' Homage to the Square, these 100 generative tokens contain grids of 5x5 to 10x10 albersquares (my term for his form).
Albers' original paintings composed a series of solid color combinations in squares of decreasing volume superimposed on top of one other, each smaller square sitting at regular offset from the center of the larger square. In Albers’ Homages, the squares were shifted down along the y-axis; as in the originals, these albersquares primarily contain down-shifted squares, but 5% are shifted up, 5% are shifted right, 5% left, and 5% centered.
The coloring for each individual square is randomly assigned out of a palette of 30 total colors based on a sampling of Homage to the Square paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art archive, with the exception of 5% of all tokens that are grayscale.
