This artwork builds upon the annual Earth Day animations I’ve been making since 2009. The particle system was written from scratch in vanilla javascript (a single 22KB HTML/JS file). The particles are constrained to the surface of a sphere and exhibit "social interactions" from which life-like patterns emerge.

Each animation will be minted with a randomly assigned color palette, energy level, particle type, and social behavior. Over 900 basic phenotypes are possible, with countless subtleties expressed per phenotype. There are a few wild rarities waiting to be born as well...

This work evolved over a three day creative sprint with fellow algorithmic artist Canton Becker. We think the Earth deserves a blockchain that doesn't blow tons of carbon. This animation pays tribute to the climate scientists and tech innovators who are working to secure our future on this planet. To that end, 10% of all proceeds from this project will be donated to The Coalition for Rainforest Nations.
