Rosetta stone of DOM
It all starts always with that first cornerstone and that first line of code. I discovered in archive the exact moment when it happened, when that first idea shined. It was the modern reconstructed stone wall, more like a monument standing, but it helped me abstract this first building block I’ll use for generating cities.
Sail boats, stone walls and beautiful Mediterranean landscapes are all there waiting to be generated. But it will take time, patience, knowledge but also lots of preparation and research.
Building blocks
Doing trips to Adriatic Sea, Dalmatia - Croatia coastal cities and Herzegovina hinterland villages I was overwhelmed with possibilities, crazy inspirations but also scared with the scope of the project. Besides trips and lots of "google" my main research document was The Handbook for Reconstruction of a Traditional House of the Dalmatian Hinterland. Nothing is impossible but in the end generative artist must choose the style and it was already there in Voyage. Also genart programmer must decide on the features and scope of the project to keep it technologically feasible.
Main new technical challenge beside “ordinary recursive trees” was to make character in code, but also to make it all “fit” together.
Same lerped lines and curved dots used in Voyage were making the walls, windows, roofs, doors, grooves, persiennes, the whole DOM architecture but also the main character.
As a continuation of my personal generative art journey, the DOM is a natural sequel and a closer, much deeper & intimate look to Voyage background ancient cities/ villages architecture and typical stone houses. Inspired by Dalmatia coastal & Herzegovina hinterland but you will hopefully find your own dream home.
