Thinking about the deconstruction of digital art, one iconic genre that comes to mind is pixel art. Born from the constraints of early video game memory capacities and display limitations, pixel art is a blend of technical prowess and visual artistry.

Cryptopunks, well-known as pixel art, has achieved the recognition of humanoid figures within a 24x24 pixel matrix. As the grid reduces to 12x12, how much diversity in characters can be maintained? Additionally, can we achieve the recognition of human forms within a 6x6 grid?

Illustrations also offer intriguing insights into human cognition and deconstruction. Most children can recognize a non-realistic representation of a dog or cat with just ears, eyes, and a mouth. Can we recognize a cat based solely on its ears and whiskers? At what angle of variation do the ears and whiskers hinder recognition? These cases unveil the smallest units of information and component parts.

Let's delve deeper into the realm of bitmap. When you view Cryptopunks on your screen, you're not seeing them in their original 24x24 format; the display adjusts them to fit the screen's resolution. This process is part of the inspiration behind the ".print" name—a sensation akin to printing onto your screen.

By breaking down digital art into its fundamental units, we can analyze it from the perspectives of display pixels and individual pixels. Pixels constitute the minimal units forming the art, while display pixels may even represent finer divisions than the artwork itself.

To find a real-world analogy for this division, fabric emerged as a fitting candidate. I envisioned pixels as threads composing fabric, with display pixels reflecting the molecular or atomic components of those threads. Fabric beautifully exemplifies the concept of smaller elements converging to create larger entities. Moreover, the diverse textures born from weaving make fabric both appealing and practical as a medium.

When translating my art into tangible items, I opted for sublimation printing to create cleaning cloths and furoshiki instead of incorporating physical threads. This decision contrasts the embodiment of pixel art elements on high-resolution displays. Since fabric assumes a display-oriented role, printing becomes imbued with significance.

Throughout the printing process, I experimented with a variety of samples. Ultimately, I was drawn to the distinctive Japanese "oni-shrunk brocade" technique for furoshiki and the glossiness resulting from high-temperature printing on the cleaning cloth. While other fabric samples displayed intriguing attributes, they might hold potential for future endeavors.

The patterns are constructed based on formulas derived from distance equations and trigonometric functions. Discovering an algorithm that generates intricate patterns from simple equations filled me with excitement. Recently, I stumbled upon a fantastic project on deca.art's image search that employs a very similar algorithm to create patterns, and I was equally thrilled to realize that someone else had ventured down a similar path of exploration and reached a similar algorithmic outcome.
